“The end of a journey means the start of another one.” – Anonymous
...and what a journey it has been. It's hard to believe it's been over 16 years since I started HouseLens! A few others and I accomplished the first 'walk-through' video just a few miles from where I write this, and at some point in the last few years we hit over 100,000 homes captured, and I'm guessing now we are well over that amount. There is some satisfaction in that fact, but honestly, overall, there was so much pain in the 'founding a business' process I can relate to the founder of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, who recently said 'Nobody in their right mind' would think about starting a company (if he had to do it over again)'. He went on to say that a 'superpower of entrepreneurs' is to 'trick themselves into believing' that it is 'not that hard''. The statement has an extra level of irony because he is now worth billions, which shows that sometimes the goal of the 'gold at the end of the rainbow' is just not worth it, regardless if you succeed or not.
I've been working with some early stage entrepreneurs lately and I'm fascinated at the level of delusion that some have, but then I realize that I'm speaking to myself 20 years ago and marvel (and question) my own past delusions, and why I think my experience will now enable me as I go into this next season.
Regardless, I am thankful for the journey, I believe it is all in order for purpose. I fully believe Romans 8:28 "For all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose." and my hope lies there.
And now the next adventure(s) begin and I'm glad I won't be in an unhealthy rush. I have been in a rush so many times in my past, and it seldom produced anything worthwhile. The feeling that someone is going to steal an idea or if we 'don't do it now' we'll miss the opportunity usually creates an environment of cutting corners and 'faking it until you make it'. Regardless, I realize that timing IS everything, but that is something that is mostly out of our control, and it is more about doing the right thing at the right time, then doing a bunch of activities.
So THANK YOU for being on this journey with me! One of my goals in this next season is to use my experience to prevent pain for others, leverage all these lessons, and move on in my journey to leverage capitalism for good. I feel so much better equipped and I'm looking forward to this next season and taking more shots at the infinite 'game'.
